The Scotts International Malta Squash Open 2016 Results

Men's Open Winner and Runner Up

The Scotts International Malta Squash Open was held over 4 days last week, culminating in the finals on Saturday.

The main senior events were won by Bradley Hindle Deguara and Johanna Rizzo while Robert Sultana claimed the over 45 title. Michael Fenech and Anthony Attard contested the final of the B event in a close match won by the former in 5 games. Martin Zammit had the better of Liz Said in the C event final.

In the Juniors competition, Kimberley Galea and Kijan Sultana were in contention for the U17 title. Both players have shown great improvement and have achieved great results recently in international competitions. In a super final between them, Kimberley Galea won the first 2 games but Sultana made an excellent comeback to win the next 3 games and match.

Kijan Sultana also won the U15 age group playing against the promising Luigi Buhagiar in the final. In the U13 event, Nigel Scerri won the competition in a nail-biting final against Lijana Sultana.

All Juniors taking part were presented with a medal by the President of Malta Squash who encouraged them to continue practising the sport. Ms Liz Said also thanked Ivan Balzan for the excellent organisation of the tournament.

The next Malta Squash tournament will be held on Sunday, 1st May at the Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex in collaboration with Sport Malta.

Malta Squash has renewed its successful collaboration with Scotts Supermarket for another year. Besides sponsoring the Malta International Open, Scotts Supermarket have also been sponsoring the National Squash League which has continued to grow from strength to strength over the last months. There are more than 80 players taking active part in the league which consists of 12 divisions and the number is growing.

In the meantime, Malta Squash has launched a new website www.maltasquash.com making it possible to join Malta Squash or renew Malta Squash membership online. Malta Squash would like to thank Jean-Paul Navarro for his work on the new website and logo. The new website, together with the Facebook page   www.facebook.com/MaltaSquashAssociation   is helping Malta Squash attract more players to the sport.
