Kijan Sultana Finishes Sixth in the Dutch Junior Open

Kijan Sultana obtained his best result so far in international competitions by managing to finish sixth in a European Super Series Event. With over 400 juniors from all over the world taking part, the Dutch Junior Open is considered as one of the toughest junior squash tournaments. Kijan was one of 45 boys taking part in the Under 13 age group.

He managed to make it to the quarter-finals by beating two Egyptian boys. He then lost to Ted Carley (USA) 11-4, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7. In the next match he beat local boy Sam Gerrits 16-14, 15-13, 12-10. It was another close match in the duel for 5th and 6th place against Abdel Rahman Ibrahim Alsarraj. The Jordanian started stronger, going two games ahead 11-6, 11-9, but Kijan came back strongly to win the next game 11-6.

He played very well and was unlucky not to win the fourth game, losing it by the closest of margins 16-14. With two players from England claiming the top positions and two Jordanians and one USA player taking the next places, the Maltese Junior did very well to finish third highest from the European players in this top level tournament.

Kijan is supported by the Maltese Olympic Committee, Sport Malta and Malta Squash.
